Daimler AG, Stuttgart and Evonik Industries AG, Essen will develop and manufacture high-performance batteries for hybrid cars and electrically powered vehicles. Both companies are going to found a new joint venture. Daimler will hold 90 percent of this joint venture. Evonik is the holder of several patents of so-called lithium ion accumulators, named Li-Tec by the firm.
